Route

Our trip is estimated to be approximately 10,000 miles total and take 4 months. Planning was done using the computer based tracks4africa software. After planning we have uploaded the route to our Garmin GPS, which we will use while driving.

We start in Johannesburg, South Africa, head down to Durban to visit friends, then move north through Swaziland to Maputu, Mozambique for some scuba diving. From there we return to So. Africa to visit Kruger National Park and drive north to see the ancient ruins at Zimbabwe National Monument. Next is a long trek north into Malawi and along the shores of Lake Malawi. Another border crossing awaits at Mbeya and takes us into Tanzania where we will visit Tarangarie and Serengeti game parks, Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater. We hope to time our trip to see the wildebeest migration as they swim in the millions across the Mara River where crocodiles and other predators await. Then it is back south through Malawi and on to Zambia’s South Luangwa Park, Victoria Falls, Chobe Wildlife Park and the Okavango Delta in Botswana. The last country on our itinerary is Namibia where we will visit Etosha, the Skeleton Coast, the massive sand dunes at Soussusvlei and finishing in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa.
